We strive to maintain a personal touch, every student’s creative path is considered important to us. In art education we celebrate differences of interpretation and new discoveries. The sharing of creative ideas and problem solving is what makes art exciting. Teaching staff & students form a close bond throughout the courses and many friendships develop.

Students are able to explore and develop their individual talent in a friendly and nurturing environment combining learning of traditional studio techniques & drawing skills with an understanding of being an artist in the contemporary world .

The school has its own gallery space “Gallery 307” which offers students the unique opportunity to showcase their works as well as exposing them to other contemporary artists..

Our mission is the art education of students from child through to adult tertiary level for both recreational purposes and training as professional visual artists.

With over 30 years experience in the field of art education, Judy Voltz (B Ed.) taught in primary, secondary and adult contexts both in private and government sectors until she established NSVA in 1996.

The teaching staff at NSVA consists of over 20 specialist artists/teachers in various areas of the visual arts. Our staff members include:

Larissa Blake

Larissa Blake is an inspiring teacher, a wonderful colourist who's representational works are exhibited regularly and represented in several galleries throughout Australia.

Lyn Butchart

Lynn Butchart is self taught watercoloirist and a highly respected and an inspiring talented tutor who is equally adept in her use of all art media. Lyn conducts workshops all over Australia.

Helen Goldsmith

Helen Goldsmith is renowned for her strength and style in watercolour and has won over 100 first prize awards, being awarded the NSW Royal Art Society Medal of Distinction and named the combined art societies artist of the year.

Colina Grant

Colina is a popular artist/ teacher who has won over 150 prizes for the self t aught medium of pastels and has been named artist of the Year 8 times by the combined Art Societies of Sydney. She is a fellow of the Royal Art Society of NSW

Georgina Hart

Georgina Hart is a popular teacher and well-known artist who believes “paint and draw what you feel” and this is evident in her highly distinctive and individual style of teaching.

Paul Macarthy

A highly regarded and popular art tutor, Paul’s style blends modern expressionism and fauvism, His  art has been exhibited internationally and is sought after for private and corporate collections.

Viktoriya Maksymova

Viktoriya Maksymova is a highly qualified, experienced teacher and artist. She was a head of Art school in Ukraine for more then 11 years, and exhibited in Russia, Ukraine, Canada and Europe.

Lyndall McKee

Lyndall McKee has been painting in watercolour for many years. She is presently head teacher of our diploma course and also teaches illustration drawing and visual techniques in graphic design.

Bernhardine Mueller

Bernhardine Mueller is an established artist/printmaker and teacher, who is passionate about promoting the art of printmaking. She has acquired over 90 first prizes and awards. Her work is exhibited across Australia and internationally.

Susie Murphie

Susie is a popular teacher and a highly accomplished watercolourist whose works have been exhibited in many art prizes.

Nafisa Naomi

Nafisa Naomi is a highly sought after teacher who has exhibited in over 80 group shows with almost 40 awards and commendations to her credit. She is president and founder of Portrait Artists Australia.

Mignon Parker

Mignon Parker is a very well known and respected teacher who has been paining and conducting workshops for over 30 years. Her ability to impart her vast knowledge in many areas ensures her workshops are always full.

Robyn Ross

Robyn is sought after as a realist portrait artist with the ability to show the physical resemblance along with the essence of the subject. With an art career spanning over 30 years she has gathered a wealth of experience with different styles and mediums. Along with portraits she enjoys painting still life and landscapes.

Vivienne du Toit

Vivienne has a 4 year Advanced Diploma in Design, specialising in Textile and surface Design. After working in the design industry in Cape Town for 12 years she emigrated to Sydney in 1998 where she has been teaching art as well as painting and exhibiting regularly.

Bernadette Trela

Bernadette is a practicing Artist and experienced Teacher, completing her MFA (Research) COFA, with a BVA, SCA, Sydney University and Assoc Dip, NAS. She has exhibited extensively and had 3 Solo shows to date.
